Yokosuka ... our home town while in Japan, about 15 minutes
south of Yokohama by train & 35 minutes south of Tokyo. It is
a very cute town, spotlessly clean of course .. and big enough, yet
with the feel of a small town or village. The "blue" street downtown,
above, is a 15 min walk from our apartment.

Cute little bus with electronic scrolling kanji characters on the side,
so foreigners have
no idea where it is going!

Band entertaining the locals in downtown Yokosuka.

At left is entrance to a covered 'mall" more like a flea market
with tons of little vendor stores & restaurants. Does the banner
say "Yankee, go home" or maybe "Bush is a war-mongerer"?

Pre-school, Japanese style!
Michael & I came on this scene one morning
walking to our train station .. presumably the kids are out for a "walk".
And looks like 2 may have escaped.....
This is one way of keeping them relatively under control.
All Japanese
children wear little hats .. they are obviously more aware than we
are about
the impact of the sun.

One of the small joys of living in Kanji/Katakana land (or as Michael
puts it, "Question Mark Land"). If you are looking for
pasta, which aisle would YOU go down??
|

A shopper unphased by lack of comprehensible signs .. you get a lot of
exercise shopping as you have to go up & down every aisle to find what
you are looking for!
