Yokohama .. just a 15 min train ride up the road & a really pretty & interesting
city. Looks like nothin' from the highway but once you are there, it
has some really nice places to see .. and the most incredible shopping
mall I have ever seen (including the ones in Scottsdale & Providence
RI!). This view is inside the train station.
|

Another view inside the station .. these stairs lead to an underground "mall" called Porta (not the one mentioned above). A labyrinth of shops
& restaurants. Apparently Japan has the highest ratio of restaurants
to people in the world! I can believe it.
|

Street outside Yokohama station.
|

Another street view ... so hard to capture the actual vibrancy of these
places.
Note the Kentucky Colonel .. and yes, the Japanese are getting fatter
.. especially the younger ones!
|

Now we are atop the tallest skyscaper in Japan .. actually not on top,
just 65 stories up. It is comprised of offices, parking, apartments,
mall, restaurants (of course) and this observation tower. We are looking
towards Tokyo whose skyscapers can be seen faintly at left. The elevator
that whisks you up here is the fastest in the world ... ears do pop!
|

Another view from the Yokohama building .. this time looking south to
Yokosuka. The large arrow points to the island which was in the previous
page of Yokosuka pics. The smaller one points to where our apartment
is
located.
